The Villanova Knights are looking to add a physical presence to its roster for the upcoming Ontario Junior Hockey League season- and they've done that despite rookie forward Andrew McCann's smallish stature.
The Clarington Toros product was impressive at rookie camp and has signed on for 2010-2011 season.
The 5-foot 8, 185-pounder showed his speed, a finishing touch and a huge physical presence that caught the attention of the Knights management staff at their camp.
"Andrew is a compact type player with very good wheels," said Villanova's Director of Scouting Kevin Lachance of the 1993 birth-year player. "He carries the puck exceptionally well with speed and creates offence from it."
The Knights are hoping playing on the large ice at Canlan York will benefit the newest Knights' forward.
"His skating will be an asset on the Knights' Olympic-size ice surface," added Lachance.
"He's a gritty player with outstanding skating ability," said General Manager Barry Rice. "We think he's going to be a complete player."

The Villanova Knights have added a couple of rookies to help shore up the blueline for the 2010-2011 Ontario Junior Hockey League season.
The Knights have inked 6-foot, 190-pound defenceman Zack MacArthur from the York Simcoe Midgets and 6-foot 3, 195-pound James Doering from Ajax-Pickering.
In MacArthur, a 1992-birth-year player, the Knights have added a rookie with some junior A experience. The blueliner started last season with the Orangeville Crushers of the Central Canadian Hockey League before returning to the midget ranks.
"Zack is an offensive-minded defenceman who rushes the puck well and creates scoring chances," said Villanova's Director of Scouting Kevin Lachance, in assessing MacArthur's attributes. "He has a very good shot both from the point and in transition. He projects to be a point-producing defenseman during his junior career."
In Doering, the Knights add a 1993 birth-year player who was highly sought-after this off-season.
"He's a solid two-way player," said General Manager Barry Rice of the blueliner. "He can score and plays well defensively. He's a big, strong, physical defenseman."
The Knights would like to welcome Zack and James to the Knights family.
